ฅ՞•ﻌ•՞ฅ Hi, girlies!
(Not sponsored. Just something that genuinely worked for me.)
My first-ever internship was with Deloitte, back when I was a sophomore. I didn't land it by sending out a hundred applications. I turned on Open to Work on LinkedIn, added the skills accounting recruiters actually look for, and a Deloitte campus recruiter sent me a LinkedIn InMail inviting me to apply to their Discovery Internship.
I used to think LinkedIn was only for people who already had "real" jobs. But recruiters are on there searching for students every day. They just can't find you if your profile doesn't say what you're looking for.
This week, let's make your profile easy to find, then put that same energy into the opportunities closing in the next two weeks…
✩ Final days to apply for these opportunities ✩

Advice column
Let recruiters find you: LinkedIn for students
1) Turn on Open to Work.
Go to your profile, tap Open to, then Finding a new job. Add the roles you want ("Accounting Intern," "Marketing Intern") and the locations or remote options that work for you.
You can choose who sees it: recruiters only or all LinkedIn members. Recruiters only is a good choice if you're shy about the green banner.
2) Add the skills for the job you want, not just the job you have.
This is what made the difference for me. Recruiters search by skills, so I listed the ones that show up in accounting postings.
Try this: open three internship postings in your field, write down the skills they repeat, and add the ones you've actually used in class, a club, or a job.
3) Write a headline that says what you're looking for.
Your headline shows up in search results. Instead of just "Student," try: "Accounting Student at [School] | Seeking Summer 2027 Internship."
4) Fill in the basics.
A clear photo, your school and expected graduation date, and a short About section (2–3 sentences on what you study and what you want to learn). Add class projects, clubs, and part-time jobs; they count.
5) Reply when someone reaches out.
You don't need a perfect message. Try: "Thank you for reaching out! I'm very interested in learning more about this role. When would be a good time to talk?"
6) Know what an InMail is (that's how I got my internship!)
An InMail is a LinkedIn message from someone you're not connected to. Recruiters use them constantly: their tools let them search profiles by skills, job title, school, location, and Open to Work status, then message you directly.
That's exactly what happened to me. A Deloitte campus recruiter found my profile and sent me an InMail inviting me to apply for the Discovery Internship. Funny part? She had messaged me before and I missed it, so she followed up. I replied, applied, and asked if I could message her with questions.
So check your LinkedIn messages regularly, not just your email. And before you click anything, make sure it's real:
Look at their title and company, and check for the verified badge on their profile.
Application links should go to the company's official careers site.
Never pay a fee or share your SSN or bank info in a chat.

7) Already working full time? InMail still works for you.
I work full time now, and I still get recruiter InMails for roles like mine. Here's how to keep them coming without announcing a job search:
Set Open to Work to "Recruiters only." No green frame. LinkedIn tries to hide it from recruiters at your current company, but it can't guarantee that.
Keep your current role updated. Your title, skills, and wins. Recruiters search for people already doing the job.
Add the next step in your preferences. List the titles you'd move up to, not just the one you have.
Reply even when you're not interested. Try: "Thanks for thinking of me! I'm happy in my current role, but I'd love to stay connected for future opportunities." That recruiter remembers you next time.
Use the chat to learn your worth. Ask about the role's level and pay range. It's free market research for your next raise or negotiation.
This week, spend one hour on your profile. Then spend one more on an application below.
A reminder for this week: You don't have to wait to be discovered. Sometimes you just have to make it easier for people to find you.
